Healthy soils for sustainable agriculture: the role of SOM
3–7 September 2017 • Rothamsted Research • Harpenden (United Kingdom)
Chair: Jackie Stroud (Rothamsted Research, UK)
The decline in soil health has reinvigorated the need for studies into soil ecosystem engineers. Earthworms improve plant productivity, impact soil structure and play a key role in soil organic matter dynamics. However, their abundance is significantly affected by soil management practices, hence their functioning in the environment. This session aims to bring together current research on this topic, promoting discussion amongst soil scientists, agricultural scientists, environmental scientists, ecologists and modellers.
